Many people know I’m a big bunny lover and have had bunnies since the age of nine. After losing Arnie in September, I began volunteering Friday evenings with NYC Metro Rabbit at the Union Square Petco. Naturally, I was drawn to NYC Metro Rabbit and decided to contribute not only my time but to add this great organization to the list of Riad Gives Back organizations.
NYC Metro Rabbit is a nonprofit organization made up of an incredible group of volunteers who help rescue abandoned rabbits as well provide education, advice and tips to rabbit owners on how to care for their pets.
Through volunteering, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many fabulous bunnies and this weekend, you have the opportunity to meet some of these adorable bundles of joy. This weekend (December 7th and 8th) is Whiskers in Wonderland, a holiday pet adoption event, presented by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, in partnership with the Petco Foundation. There will be more than 300 cats, kittens, and rabbits just waiting to be welcomed into new homes for the holidays.
Here are a few bunnies who warm my heart:
Samantha came to us with an ear injury which took off more than half of her ears, despite this hardship she is still a total sweetheart!
Adorable little Timmy, who is currently being fostered after a little health issue will soon be back at Petco and available for adoption!
And of course the lovely little babies that I have been fostering since October.
Other ways to get involved…
If you love bunnies but not ready for a full time pet commitment, you can sponsor one of our shelter bunnies online through Petfinder. Click on any bunny profile and sponsor a bunny so they can live a better life until they find a permanent home!
NYC Metro Rabbits is currently looking for volunteers to help with the bunnies at the 86th Street Petco and the Shelter on 110th. Also, if you have experience with bunnies and would like to foster, email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
