On our last art tour of the year, we visited five galleries in Chelsea here are some of the highlights. Our first stop was the Gagosian Gallery, on view now is the LA Invitational which featured work from Chris Burden, Frank Gehry, Piero Golia, Mark Grotjahn, Thomas Houseago, Alex Israel, Mike Kelley, Nancy Rubins, Sterling Ruby, Ed Ruscha, Robert Therrien, Jeff Wall, Mary Weatherford, and Jonas Wood. Our second stop was the Richard Avedon exhibit at the Pace Gallery. The selected works were from Avedon’s 1964 collaboration with James Baldwin, “Nothing Personal.” Our third stop was the Matthew Marks Gallery where we viewed new sculptures from Katharina Fritsch. Our fourth stop was the artist and activist, Zanele Muholi’s exhibition at the Yancey Richardson Gallery. The exhibition featured Brave Beauties and Somnyama Ngonyama (‘Hail, the Dark Lioness’). Our final stop was the Jack Shainman Gallery where we viewed Nina Chanel Abney’s Seized the Imagination.
